Acne Treatment Home
Acne is such a common condition and yet there is so much misinformation about it. It is difficult to know what to believe when looking into hormonal acne treatment. This site is here to possibly change some of your preconceptions and separate the fact from the fiction.
So let’s jump straight in and start looking at the most common beliefs:
Belief 1: People who have acne are dirty and don’t wash
The truth here is that acne is caused by a hormonal imbalance in the body, and hence why teenagers are affected most badly. The fact is that we all have oil glands within the skin to protect it and keep it moist. However when our hormones are disrupted the glands can over produce which acts to block the pores and thus cause the acne. So rather than helping, over washing and scrubbing of the face can have a detrimental effect, as it tends to promote the production of even more oil. Therefore one of the first and simplest hormonal acne treatments is to ensure you do not over wash and when you do, wash gently and pat dry with a soft towel.
Belief 2: Acne can be brought on by eating the wrong foods.
Research has consistently shown that eating sweets and fatty foods is not a direct contributory factor to hormonal acne. Despite the likes of pizza, French fries and chocolate in excess not being the best for your health as a whole, they aren’t going to bring you out in spots. It should be pointed out however that although the odd guilty treat is not going to encourage your acne, a health balanced diet is always going to be better for your skin and general health.
Belief 3: Stress Causes Acne
The everyday stresses that the majority of us commonly experience does not lead to acne. It is true that one of the possible side effects of the drugs used to counter severe stress is acne, but this shouldn’t affect most of us. If you do think medication you are taking is responsible for your acne, it is advisable to speak to your doctor before doing anything. One last comment on this subject is to say that although stress can’t cause acne, it can be a factor in making existing acne worse.
Belief 4: Acne only a superficial disease
Although acne is a skin deep condition, it can leave significant scarring for some that is more than just purely cosmetic. In addition to the physical issues, it can also cause some people serious psychological issues; effecting their self-esteem and confidence and consequently the way they interact with others. Ultimately it can lead to feelings of frustration, social embarrassment and ultimately depression.
Belief 5: There is nothing you can do about acne
There are many tried and tested hormonal acne treatments available today (both paid for and home remedies), and therefore there is no reason why anybody should suffer with any of the issues brought about by acne. It really is just a matter of finding the solution that is right for you. Ultimately if you can not find a hormonal acne treatment available on this site and are concerned about acne, then please don’t suffer in silence and consult your local GP or dermatologist.
